Owners of blind or visually impaired targeted in string of burglaries

A series of burglaries targeting Asian-American homes has Sacramento police scrambling to determine whether they are connected.

Police are saying that the burglar, described as a white man with a strong-arm style tattoo on his left hand, left his vehicle in a parking lot close to the target properties.

“We just have no idea how many have been involved or how many are involved at this point,” Officer Michele Gigante said.

“We know that there have been burglaries, there have been two homes that have been hit, and the suspect did leave his vehicle in the same parking lot where the first few occurred.”

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department has offered a $12,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

The Washington Post reported that most of the burglaries occurred early in the morning. Burglars are apparently using chainsaws to gain access to the homes, then removing property.

Many of the victims are blind.

“The victims are mostly people who are blind or visually impaired,” Gigante said. “They have some other kind of disability.”

The Washington Post reported that residents have been advised to not go outside the residences while they’re being burglarized.
