The latest trailer for “Insecure” opens with another man kissing Issa Rae’s character on the mouth.
Then Rae sings.
“This is my friend. My secret friend,” she croons, while wearing a white gown and wielding a knife in front of her friend.
“He’s a friend you never knew was your secret friend,” we’re told at the end of the “Harlem” spot.
Tessa Thompson, Issa Rae, Jay Ellis, Natasha Rothwell, Lee Daniels, and Phylicia Rashad are in the trailer, with an eclectic cast that includes Jamie Hector and Rhyon Nicole Brown.
It premiered at SXSW this week, and in what Quartz described as a “high-heeled trailer,” sets “The Life of Pablo” by Kanye West against images of rappers. The brilliance of it?
“It captures just about everything about rap music that audiences love in a pack of five intensely rhythmic seconds,” writes Quartz.
The HBO series comes to a TV screen near you in June.
